Band Booster Fundraising

A band program of our level is usually supported by a group of band boosters, and we have a great bunch of hard-working parents.  They help at home games, competitions, concerts, and for numerous fundraising events.  They are really a major key to the success of our program.  When a student joins the band, their parents are automatically welcome to become a part of this organization.

Fundraising is also a huge key to the success of our program.  We sponsor fundraisers frequently to help students offset the cost of fees, which pay for travel expenses, competition entry fees, uniform maintenance, props, instructors, etc.  Our yearly budget is quite large because of the extent of the program, and it is necessary to fundraise most of it!

To The Parents of students in all SMHS Instrumental Music Programs

As Band Booster Co-Presidents, we wish to share with you some immediate concerns.

We are fortunate to have award winning bands in every area.  San Marcos Royals Band won the Sweepstake awards for best overall band at the Las Vegas, Oxnard and Valencia comps and 1st place in the 3A division in Moorpark and Santa Barbara competitions. in 2006 and 2007.   We also won caption awards those same years in Valencia and Oxnard for High Visual, High General Effect and High Music.  Jazz Band came in 3rd at the Reno Jazz Festival in April of 2006, and Concert Band is one of eight high school bands in the country to be invited to the Carnegie Hall Festival in NYC.  Our students are incredible and our director, Dan Garske along with his staff brings these student musicians to amazing heights.

The superior quality of these programs comes at a high price.  The Band Boosters want and need to make available to the families, fundraising opportunities so that all students have the opportunity to participate.  We will continue to provide the regular fundraising opportunities of selling products; gift-wrap, candy, entertainment books, car washes, etc.  We know these types of fundraisers help many students with their fees in the various music programs.  However, we feel strongly that this year, more than ever, we need some grand fundraisers to help all families with the impending costs.

We need to organize people power and contacts to pull off some successful fundraisers; Auctions, Concerts, Big Ticket Raffle, etc., etc., etc.

We welcome your ideas and time to work with us on this most important task.

Band Booster meetings are regularly held the second Wednesday of every month at 6:30 pm.  Please come; we appreciate all the involvement and energy you can give to this wonderful program. It is imperative that we meet soon.  Thank you.

Most Sincerely,

Donna Butera and Meredith Sedgwick
